Despite appearances, the Argentine snake-necked turtle is probably more closely related to the Mata mata Chelus fimbriatus than to the Australian snake-necked turtles in the genus Chelodina.
The turtles are carnivorous and eat snailsaquatic insectsfishand amphibians.
